For Those About to Scream…
The Frustration, Anger, Resentment, and Pain, are Very Real
A man in a market, somewhere in the world, okay yes Palestine, was sitting in a chair when an Israeli drone shot him in the head.
He did not harm anyone, he was doing nothing wrong, the Israelis just decided it was his turn to die. Because he was there.
So now he’s dead.
How many more? How many thousands, hundreds of thousands of people have died that didn’t have to? Death is such a cruel disease, it’s one thing everyone gets and anything can take you at any time, so yeah life is super precious.
But it’s also angering, frustrating, and debilitating when you stop for a moment to think about all those who are being murdered right now.
As I write this, in Sudan, Haiti, Palestine, Congo, the DRC, and Darfur just to name a few places, people are running for their lives.
As we sit comfortably in our favorite chair reading our favorite author’s words, as we sip our coffee, as we eat our fancy meals and celebrate the stars, someone — probably and most likely — a child is being raped, tortured, and murdered, at this very moment.
If that doesn’t put your life into perspective, then I don’t know what is. Knowing what I know about the world now, means that I have no choice but to use my voice to advocate for those voices that are going ignored.
It means using my platform to help folks out, and rather than give you a bunch of BS about what you should be doing, I thought I would help you out and point you to some organizations that are already doing the work that could use your help.
Gaza Funds
You can start with Gaza Funds Dot Com, which highlights a different GoFundMe campaign for people from Gaza, and Palestine, every hour of the day, hoping to help get every single one fully funded.
Wear the Peace
Wear The Peace dot Com presents a new way to bring art, fashion, and foundation together, by creating pieces that support organizations worldwide.
Their work means that people in Gaza, Palestine, have access to clean water, food, and other necessities to get through the daily struggle of living in a concentration camp.
You can support them by buying any of their pieces for yourself, your friends, and your family. Wear the Peace has donated millions so far with plans to donate much more in the future, so any and all bits help promote and share their work for them.
604North
Every year I choose an organization or a worthy cause to donate to. This year it’s to the people of Palestine. Until a permanent ceasefire is called, all proceeds from the 604North shop — which usually feeds my cannabis and coffee habit — will go towards funding fundraisers for people who are from Palestine.
These days it seems almost impossible to feel like our individual voices can matter over the masses, but the truth is that when we use our voices together and unite them as one, we as communities are capable of great things.
With that greatness comes the responsibility to stand up for — but not necessarily speak for — the most marginalized among us. Knowing how and when can be confusing, but if you take your cues from those who have been in the community longer, you can see where the holes need to be plugged the most.
It is my greatest hope that the people of Palestine, Sudan, Congo, the DRC, Haiti, Darfur, and anywhere else where genocide is happening, see peace soon. World peace seems like a tall order when we have so many in power that cares for so few among us, but I know and I believe that in my lifetime it is possible.
I know I won’t see peace in my lifetime, but that is different than knowing that peace is possible. Hope is what keeps me going, and I genuinely believe if you put your heart where your mouth is, you’ll find that hope is what is keeping you going too.
Sending all my love,
Devon J Hall, The Loud Mouth Brown Girl
